Peaks Island is part of the city of Portland and is approximately 3 miles from downtown, which takes about 15 minutes by boat. Casco Bay Lines makes regular trips throughout the day, rain or shine, year-round. Tickets can be purchased at the time of departure. Water taxis and mooring options for those arriving by boat are available by prior reservation.

Lighthouses
Casco Bay holds some of the most famous and iconic views of Maine. With Maine’s oldest lighthouse tour, this scenic harbor is home to six lighthouses, three of which you can see on the short ride to Peaks. Perhaps the most iconic lighthouse, The Portland Head Light, was commissioned by George Washington is easilly visable by boat or ferry. Other lighthouses that can be seen are the Spring Point Ledge Light and the Portland Breakwater Lighthouse (Bug Light).
Forts
In addition you can see three classic decommissioned forts that once protected this beautiful harbor; Fort Gorges, Fort Preble, and Fort Scammel.
Maine Wildlife
There is a plethora of quintessential Maine wildlife to be seen as well. Countless seals inhabit the harbor, as well as many types of waterfowl including Puffins and Great Blue Herons.
